Hello! My name is Asako Maruyama, and thank you for visiting Canary Opera.
I created this website to share my artwork inspired by classical music, with the hope of introducing the world of orchestras and instruments—even to those who might not be familiar with it yet.
I originally studied clarinet performance, but somewhere along the way, I found myself picking up a brush as well. It’s been such a joy to explore classical music from a different perspective!
My family runs a shop that specializes in traditional Japanese brushes and washi paper, so all of my illustrations are handmade using watercolor, sumi ink, and fine Japanese brushes.
If my art makes you wonder things like, “What does that instrument sound like?” or inspires you to give classical music a try, then I couldn’t be happier.
I also share small sketches and updates on Twitter and Instagram, so feel free to follow along if you’re curious.
And if you have any requests, thoughts, or commission inquiries, you’re always welcome to email me here.
I hope you enjoy exploring my work!
